Meet The Team: Teo Fuh Sin
July 13, 2018 Teo Fuh Sin

In conjunction with our monthly series #KnowYour Scoopie, Meet the Team is an introductory series which allows team members of Scoopoint to personally introduce themselves, as well as allowing the public to learn about the people behind the creative space.

This month, we introduce Teo Fuh Sin – the marketing executive and content writer of Scoopoint Coworking!

Introduce Yourself!

Hey everyone! I’m Fuh Sin, the Marketing Executive and Content Writer of Scoopoint. I was born and raised in Penang, Malaysia and was categorize among my friends as the person who’s “most likely to live in a musical” due to my frequent sudden outbursts of either soundtracks from musicals or songs I would make up as I’m doing things; followed by some amateur dance routines I’d choreograph (including the famous jazz hands) which I personally think is pretty neat.

Quick facts! Irrelephant, but my favourite animal’s giraffe, and believe me, if I could, I would adopt them (but they belong in the wildlife so let’s not go there). I’m also an extreme dog-lover and is currently a dog-mother of two miniature twin schnauzers, that goes by name of Stitch and Bambi. To stem off from that, I would say I relate to Lilo on a spiritual level with the kicking, screaming and biting and love vine memes and… well, memes in general. Alas, my dream is to have a pug name pau – yes, like char siew pau, tau sar pau, kaya pau.

If you could describe yourself in three words, what would they be?

Unpredictable I’m extremely unpredictable up to the point that sometimes I don’t understand myself. I will admit that I’m fickle-minded, which isn’t exactly a positive adjective to describe myself, but I like to see it in a positive light and use it to my advantage to motivate me. If anyone knows me, they’d figure out that I’m the kind of person that needs to be challenged. I’m not the kind where I’d be comfortable in the same place for too long, as I do get bored quickly and would scurry off to find something else that will excite me.

Perfectionist — I tend to want things to be done in a particular way, which made me a real pain to work with back in college. When I’m passionate or excited about a certain project, I tend to advert my attention onto it and will always make sure through the small details that I will see it through.

Creative — I like to think that I’m creative. I don’t like following trends or doing things that has already been done. I enjoy looking at things in a different light and taking that initiative to step out of the box to do something fresh, meaningful and thrilling. I mean, there’s nothing more exhilarating than the unexpected.

How do you spend your free time?

It’s a balance between writing and catching up with my friends. I don’t go out as often as I like, so when I do have time to spare, I jump at meeting my friends as much as I can. We’d go out for a meals, catch a movie or head out to Chulia street for some drinks and we’d talk about what’s been going on in our lives, as well as our current struggles and what not. No matter if it’s something simple, to see my friends and catch up means so much to me.

Writing, on the other hand, fluctuates depending on my mood. Although I do try to spare some time after work as my writing muse works better at night. I’ve been trying to be more confident in the things I write and I’ve recently attended workshops to work on them a little more, so hopefully I’ll be able to grow along the way.

If you were a superhero, what kind of powers would you like to have?

This one’s difficult for me to choose, especially when I grew up watching X-Men and fantasizing what it’d be like to wake up one day and realize I’m gifted with powers. I’ve always thought I wanted to read minds, but I’ve picked at it way too many times to gradually realize that maybe ignorance is bliss, and it’s better to not care what people think (how incredibly deep). So I’ll go with either shape-shifting or fire manipulation. I think it’ll be pretty fun to shape-shift myself into someone else and cause chaos, and well fire has always been my element, so let me just embrace that power and use it to my advantage.

If you could pick yourself a theme song, what would it be?

I’m the kind of person who’s got a long list of songs suited for either the different kinds of moods I’m feeling or an occasion, so it’s going to be difficult to just pick one. But if I do have to pick one, it’d be Be Still by The Killers. It’s one of the many songs that’s very close to my heart. There’s just something about the lyrics (and Brandon’s voice) that soothes and comforts me when I need it most. I usually listen to it when I either need a pick-me-up or some kind assurance that it’s okay to take you time in life, that you should never forget who you are and that hard work will eventually pay off; you just gotta keep hustling!

This… isn’t really a theme song I go by, but I love Mulan with my whole heart, and this song isn’t on her official movie soundtrack and was supposed to be incorporated into Mulan’s Decision (but wasn’t – which is a real shame) but Short Hair is a score I will always love listening. It just screams empowerment and courage to me, not to mention, in that particular scene she takes matters into her own hands knowing well that it’ll effect her future if she gets caught replacing her father.

Any personal recommendations?

Coraline is an all time personal favourite. I don’t remember how many times I’ve watched it but if i was given the choice to walk through Wonderland or through the door of the Other Bedroom, I would chose the latter any day. Even if… the Other Mother would be waiting for me on the other side of the door. There’s just something about reinventing a whole different world that intrigues me when it comes to storytelling.

So, what’s the best thing about being a part of Scoopoint?

The people. There’s a mutual feeling between my team and I; we basically treat one another like family and there’s nothing better than to be absolutely comfortable and at home at your workplace. We help strengthen each other’s weaknesses and embrace everyone’s strength. We also push and motivate each other in order to get to where we are today. I think the most important part about teamwork is communication and we’re incredibly open when it comes to ideas and difficulties.

Besides the team, I’ve met so many incredible individuals who I have the pleasure of calling my friends. I enjoy the community Scoopoint built and how open and talented our members are. I also find that I’ve grown as a person during my time at Scoopoint. Sure, everyone’s learning something new every day, but I can feel myself developing skills I once wasn’t confident in. It’s inspiring, and I feel lucky to be surrounded and to be working with people who motivates me to become a better version of me everyday.
